in san francisco. i'm here to address the central subway construction option of north beach * . our last meeting was november 19th, which has been mentioned, when we finally had representatives of the mta present what they plan to do, and nobody in north beach had heard or agreed with any of it. so, i mentioned at that meeting that i have never missed a vote. i've been in this city for 45 years, but i couldn't remember having voted on this project. i was informed correctly that the taxpayers voted for the subway in the late 1990s for a $6 47 million expense, which is now $1.58 billion, with a b. the whole project is too little too late. and the mta has made cost cuts, but prices continue to rise. as required by the federal law, the city of san francisco must pay for all overruns on this project. i ask the mta board what are your latest project costs? and how can we continue this new project when our present and regular equipment are continually breaking down, as was mentioned yesterday when 250,000 people were put out of work because of faulty equipment that had not been kept up. thank y

of paintings at the old mint in san francisco. they reflected scenes from that part of california. he took us down there and proudly showed us her work. although he traveled the world his family was always in his thoughts. california was always his home. what i will most remember about chris is how thoughtful he was and how people were drawn to him. chancellor wu wrote when chris was appointed ambassador, friends, professional acquaintances contacted me to encourage me to reach out to him. he was so well thought of. i sent a hand-written card and to my surprise he returned the correspondence with his own handwritten note. that would be very much like chris. he appreciated and enjoyed interactions with people. in fact, our friend chris highland put it very eloquently when he said, chris was the finest among us. more than his obviously charms, he was a man of substance and humility. at parties, dinners and gatherings he spent little times talking about himself and his accomplishments. only when he was forced to. instead he asked people about their lives, their views, their accomplishments. he a

system is to san francisco and how when things aren't going well, it can really adversely impact people in a pretty significant way. so, i didn't want to let the meeting go by without acknowledging that. >> so, moving on to brighter things, we recently completed a project at outbound market street -- on outbound market street at valencia, to make left turns work better for cyclists. the way it had worked is that cyclistses would merge across the two lanes of traffic and across the f-line tracks, both of which cause safety issues for everybody, for both motorists, for f line operators and for cyclists. so, what we've done is put a cut out on the right so the left turning traffic goes to the right, waits for a signal which they now have from signal change to give them a protected green, that allows them to safely cross in absence of traffic and perp dishtion lard to the tracks to make for a much safer environment. we've got new signage and pavement markings to make that clear. as everybody was stuck on the subway, i rode my bike yesterday and rode passed it. it's a significant safety impr

$75 ticket or whatever, they're going to decide they're not going to shop in san francisco. you're trying to get people to take public transit. they're not going to take all their bags shopping on the bus and go home. they just bought a nice expensive coat, birthday present for their spouse or their significant other and they're not going to want to carry it on the bus and have someone steal it from them, you know. a lot of people still don't feel safe being on public transit. i think that -- i can the thing is, though, if you keep costing more and more to come into the city, especially on sundays, you're going to be cutting off your nose despite your face. that's all i'm going to say about that. and also, you need to make sure you address the concerns of the religious community -- not the religious, the church communities because all you're going to do as i said, discourage people from coming to church. and god knows we all need to go to a religious service once in a while. thank you. >> thank you. anyone else care to address the board? seeing none, we'll go to the consent cale

are connecting in los angeles and san francisco and also connecting, paired connection in new york and washington and 111 -- aid and ashburn. yes, it might he is stormed. it might he got forbid some sort of malicious attack although i should say not something i sense the network engineers are losing a lot of sleep over. they are not very good targets in buildings from a cybersecurity standpoint. they are highly secure because of concerns about that and theft of the information inside that i was struck in talking to people and going to visit these places, essentially the higher up the food chain i got a people who owned and operated these buildings, the less concerned they were about talking about it in the less concerned they were about their physical security. in fact the greater concern, the greater concern was that if we don't know about what goes on inside and what the issues are facing those operators, the greater threat is in washington. the greater threat is the internet will be legislated in a way that is not the best thing for the healthy functioning of the network. >> host: andrew blum
